| Vanessa Pooley
studied at Norwich School of Art and the City and Guilds
School of Art in London. Her figurative sculpture has
received much acclaim as a result of a succession of extremely
successful shows, including individual exhibitions at
the Orangery in London and at Southwark Cathedral.
Vanessa's curvy female figures have been described
as being 'plumply at rest within their own bodies'.
Her figures develop strong and tactile characters of
their own through sculptural processes and treatment
of the surface of both ceramics and bronzes. One cannot
help but be conscious of their moods, whilst warming
to the calmness of these fellow beings.
Vanessa's figures, taken largely from the imagination
are sometimes influenced by Greek and Mexican cultural
history. Her sculptural hero is the Colombian painter,
Botero. |
