I am very passionate about painting. It’s a place where I can be as dramatic or quiet as I wish to be. Each painting is an adventure, a communication between inner and outer experiences. It is a dance of applying tried and tested techniques, evoking the imagination, breaking free from habit, and moving into un-chartered territory.

The paintings can be seen as inner landscapes of the mind. They depict states of stillness, of wildness, energy without beginning or end, not fixed, evoking the transitory nature of existence. My love of colour, light and the five elements is the raw energy of the work. I use colours that have a luminous and rich vibrancy which evokes a celebration of life. I work with oils and wax on canvas, layering, scraping back, and building up textures that give the painting a surface that one wants to touch, which is all part of the sensory experience.

I am interested in taking risks and breaking through the apparent surface of things, to paint my way through a doorway into another reality, into other states of consciousness, into other ways of seeing things.
