| The maple’s
yellow/light brown colour and undulating appearance contrast
beautifully with the plain and deep black surface of the
ebony. The rosewood leaves on either side of the chess
board have a pronounced, parallel-running grain and display
the full spectrum of colour found in this wonderful wood,
from light and dark brown to near-black. Despite the vibrancy
of its surface the table has a harmonious appearance which
is supported by its minimalist and strongly geometric
design.
A pure lead-free biological oil, consisting of linseed,
nut and orange peel oils, has been used to treat the
surface of the wood. The oil has been applied four times
to fill the pores of the wood, thereby stabilising it
from within and making its surface more resilient.
