| Working in
both ceramics and glass enables John to exploit the similarities
between the two media whilst celebrating their quite different
qualities. Most of his work concentrates on the development
of vessel forms.
In glass, these are shallow and open, whilst in ceramics
John tends to produce a more complex, vertical emphasis.
In both media, the forms are conceived as vehicles for
surface design.
The strongly asymmetric ceramic vessels have their
surfaces punctuated by dramatic designs using a variety
of coloured glazes. The glass dishes are completed with
iridescent polychrome designs, which exploit the translucency
of the medium.
