On 25 June 2016 the doors will close for the last time at the gallery’s Zähringerstrasse premises, practically 14 years to the day since they first opened. I cannot think of a better or more appropriate way to mark this occasion than hosting what is literally the LAST Picture Show, an exhibition featuring the work of Hans Signer, the artist with more solo exhibitions at the gallery than any other. Coinciding as it does with the publication of Hans’ first [...]
With the pace of our modern age and the volume of information and images we are bombarded with every day, it is easy for us to ignore our surroundings and the constant changes occurring in the world immediately around us. Martin Laurance has trained himself to look at and experience places in a way most of us do not, visiting and sketching them time and time again and observing closely the constant changes wrought by time, the elements and mankind. [...]
Joceline Wickham is an artist whose work the gallery has been following for many years. It is our great pleasure to present her first solo show in Switzerland. Joceline works in oils on board. Her paintings are small, detailed and closely observed. She is interested in looking at the beauty and strangeness of ordinary things, organising them such that a transformation takes place. Colour is all important but shape, form, texture and surface pattern are vital too. Most recently, Joceline’s compositions [...]
Over the last year we have been taking some time out to reflect on the past and plan for the future. After a few years as a basement gallery we are now looking forward to exhibiting at street level again, in much welcome daylight. The beauty and diversity of the British coast has been a constant source of inspiration to many of our artists and is a fitting subject for our first themed exhibition in more than a decade. COAST [...]
English painter Martin Laurance returns for his fourth solo show with us. This will be his first exhibition at the gallery since 2010 and follows a string of highly successful exhibitions in the UK. The popularity of Martin’s landscapes lies not only in their immediate energy, vibrancy and power, but also in the many details that lie waiting to be discovered each time they are admired afresh. In a very honest way, they capture Martin’s experience of particular places and [...]
North Norfolk is not the most famous corner of England but it is the one that Paul Darley calls home and most loves to paint. It is also the subject of his latest exhibition with us, opening on 11 April 2013. Paul Darley’s love of North Norfolk stems not only from his appreciation of its unspoilt countryside and coastline but also from his fascination with those who live, work and holiday there. Paul’s new exhibition, “A special corner of England”, [...]
Colin Kent’s first show in Zurich has proved very popular indeed. To give more people a chance to see it the exhibition has now been extended to 2 March 2013.
We are proud to present the work of British artist Colin Kent. New to Switzerland, Colin has been painting professionally for over forty years. The sea and coastal locations have been a constant inspiration to Colin but his art is essentially about capturing spirit and atmosphere, whether of a place or a still life. Colin says of his work and his way of working: “It is definitely a Romantic thing with me. I find people love lonely places and [...]
The coming months bring a number of major landmarks for me and the gallery. At the end of this month I will turn fifty, at the end of July I will have been in Switzerland for twenty years and, last but not least, at the end of June it will be ten years since the gallery first opened its doors. To mark these occasions we will be showing a selection of work by some of the artists who have contributed [...]
Val Hudson’s show “A Year In The Making” has been universally well received. Such has been the level of interest that we have decided to extend the show to 28 April 2012.
